I have a cat, his name is Charlie. Charlie's cool, he's just not fulfilling the need.   I am more of a dog lover and have been thinking of getting a small dog for companionship.  My dog Sara passed away several years ago and I miss going places with her. My concern are the restrictions in campgrounds and possibly leaving a pet alone when I go hiking in an area where there are wild animals (e.g. bears). You're not suppose to do that, of course.  It just defeats the purpose of bringing the pet while your out and about.  

So I'm asking, what's your experience?
