Hello NuRVers! So glad we found you here. Quick intro, we are Farrell (the mom/wife), Todd (dad/hubbins), Devin (23 yo son), and Max (the lazy cat). Todd is a published author of speculative fiction. I and our son are artists. Max just eats and sleeps.

Many years ago, Todd and I prepared to hit the road, but got cold feet because we had a small child. So we chose "security" and the more traditional path. Fifteen years later and we find ourselves ready to check out of the corporate world and follow our dreams.

We had some major life altering events in the past couple of years that have brought us back around to the basics and what it means to really live as apposed to just "making a living".

Our plan is to meander for the most part and experience all the things we only wished we could up to this point. But we're also using this to get around the country so that Spouse can do personal appearances at cons, book signings, etc.

At this writing, we're in full-force planning. We're shopping for our machine (leaning toward 5th wheels), putting our affairs into order, and plan on being out there with you all by January. Our first stop will be a beach somewhere where we will lay around and be useless for a week or two. Just sort of let our heads decompress and throw off any remaining mental/emotional shackles that this old life may still have on us. After that? Who knows? Anything and everything is possible. =)

Our big plan on the road is about strengthening ourselves, as a family and as individuals. It's about being better people than we are. We all have those ideas of "if this or that were different, I would..." or "I need to change this about myself someday....". This is that day. One of the most important aspects of this trip is finding ways to volunteer in the communities we visit. Just pull up, help and shit, then leave. =) So if anyone has any good info concerning ways we can accomplish this, please share. We're also a bit of a geeky crew, and finding the most reliable yet inexpensive internet set up is a priority. Spouse has already combed these forums, gleening the wisdom of your experiences. Thank you for that.

I suppose that pretty much sums us up. We're looking forward to meeting our new mobile community and becoming part of it. We can't wait to make new friends and expand who we are into something better. Thank you for being here. Thank you for the treasure trove of experience and information you have amassed here.

Until next time, best wishes,

~TeamYuck!

Welcome TeamYuck!! Sounds like you guys are ramping up to a great adventure! For your technology questions, check out Technomadia.com - they are seasoned fulltiming techno-geeks, and have a few series dedicated to getting connected on the road.

Be sure to ask any questions you might have - I am sure one of us on here might have experienced what you need!

I have washboard abs. They are just hidden under 50#s of laundry.

Oooh I'm excited for you guys, what fun! I yhink it took us about 7 or 8 months before we felt like ee had dhaken off our old life. You're in for a great time.

As for volunteering in communities  you'll find tons of opportunities, just depends on what kind of volunteering you want to do. Some require you to stick around longer while others are fine with a day of helping out.

Thanks for joining!

Hi Team Yuck,

We have been on the road two years and what a time we have had. Since you said you plan to volunteer, I thought you might be interested in our next adventure. We will be meeting the Escapee Doves group in Quartzite January 12 to find out about helping with disaster relief. They are also offering Red Cross classes for certification. Should be a great group of people.

Welcome to the open road.
