There is a post on SF Craigslist that has some good information on a veggie oil Trek. There is a link to an auction on Ebay. Another impressive fact about it is that it is parked in the Mission District in San Francisco.

I've been wanting to convert whatever vehicle I get (first it was going to be a Sportsmobile, now it will be the tow vehicle for my 5th wheel) to SVO.  People make the filtering process sound messy and complicated, but Golden Fuel Systems sells an on-the-go filtering system (for like $800, but eventually it would pay for itself, especially in convenience) which has a fireproof hose you can stick in the fryer - that hose goes to the filter - then another hose that comes out and goes straight in to your tank, so you basically can just pull up to the back of a restaurant and fill up your vehicle right there.  Sounds good to me!  :-)

We looked into veggie oil for our rig. At the time, converting the veggie oil to fuel required that we carry potentially-explosive lye for the conversion process. This seemed impractical for a full timer.

Has the conversion technology since improved to make veggie oil fuel more full timer friendly?

The Janssens converted an Alpine coach to run on straight veggie oil. No conversion - pump from the restaurant, filter, and into the engine. That was their second veggie-powered RV. There are others out there doing straight veggie.

Here is their website - http://www.happyjanssens.com/
