I just did a twitter search on "Quartzsite" and I was actually surprised that the word was being used.

Anyone else ever use twitter to scout out your destination?

I haven't, but I usually go to Yelp to see what is going on in the 'hood I am in. Curiously, there are a lot of things with only one review here. Maybe just one prolific Yelper?!

Makes me wonder what the percentage is for people that use Yelp but don't review. I know I only take the time to review if I'm really impressed with them.

Yup.. regularly use Twitter to scope out what's going on around us. Have met some amazing people in our travels that way too.   It's extra useful when attending anything conference like to follow the hashtags to find out cool stuff.

We use Yelp as well, but like you've seen.. reviews can be quite scarce when outside of big cities.  A lot of the reviews in small towns tend to be from folks traveling through from a big city where Yelp is more heavily used.

From my experience (generally speaking) most of the tweets that show up using #cityname are from real estate or news user accounts. But RV bloggers (like Technomadia and company) are very active on Twitter. I would recommend making a twitter list with all your RVer friends on it.

Yelp is great but as others have mentioned reviews can be very hard to find in rural areas. Obviously I'm a little biased toward our app (http://www.rvparking.com/iphone). There's also the "Around Me" app but that doesn't take any user reviews into account.

Here's our version of a "rvblogger" list.
