We have a roadmaster sterling tow bar that came with our Southwind motorhome.  Just purchased a Subaru Forester to tow...now we have to hook everything up, purchase an aux braking system and something to protect our new Subie!

What do y'all use for aux braking systems?
What do you use to protect your toad - rockshield, tow defender, protect-a-tow, ultraguard flap???

Thanks!

We tow a 4 door Jeep Wrangler - right around 5k pounds I believe. Before that was a 2 door Wrangler. I used a Brake Buddy for both. IMO, you don't need one all the time, but when you DO need it, a guy is happy he has one :)

I think if I buy another braking system, I will go with the SMI Air Force One. It runs off the coach's air system. They aren't cheap, but super easy, and no bulky braking system to store/move/hook up.

However, been very happy with the Brake Buddy. Keep an eye on Ebay and Craigslist for used ones. They typically go for about $500 used.

As for front end protection, I have a big mud flap on the back of our coach, and don't use anything but that. But, again, I drive a Jeep, and it sits up higher than a normal car, and not as much to chip up on the front.

I have washboard abs. They are just hidden under 50#s of laundry.

We have US Gear Brake as our auxiliary braking system. The nice thing about this system is that it's permanently installed in the car.

Here's some info on it:

We don't use any kind of protection. Our class A has a huge mud-flap in the back and so far that's been fine.

I know, I'm making Zombie posts but seriously it's only the third topic down, I'm bored at work and I have some recent experience with this.

I just bought and installed the ReadyBrake brake system. Took it for a test drive yesterday and it works exactly as expected. Not as fancy as some systems but does a fine job for what I need.

As far as protecting the Toad I took a different route over buying protective devices. I bought a really cheap Toad! I found my 1990 Jeep Cherokee on CraigsList for $1250. It was tow ready and came with a Blue Ox tow bar. At that price point I don't really care if it takes a rock bath behind the motorhome.
