We've all had a rough go of it for the last few weeks and needed to get out. So on a last minute decision Saturday, we started calling all the local campgrounds to see if we could get a site. Everyone was booked up except this new little place called Attica Campground, which is about 10 miles west of Lapeer off I-69 in Michigan. At a great rate of $25 for a waterside site with electricity, we hit the road in the old bus.
This was the first trip the whole family has taken together since we got the old girl back on the road, so it was fun to see what worked and what didn't. The campground was great, and very new. It was still under construction, so there wasn't any running water or working bathhouses. We made do, and headed to the beach. The've got a great 5 acre pond with a roped off shallow spot and sandy beach for the kids. The place was very uncrowded, and the owners introduced themselves. One of the owners, Tom, let my son and I use one of his paddle boats, which my kid got a kick out of.
We had a nice campfire at night, and saw the biggest peacock I've ever seen roaming around the campground. They also have some great nature trails that we hiked.
We all plan to return to this hidden paradise, and would reccomend it to others.
As for the bus, it was great, with the exception of manual steering and no running water. I've still got some work to do on the bathroom facilities, but for now we are just enjoying our home on wheels.
