Fantastic Vent

Has anyone installed one of these on their rigs? I'm looking at this as an alternative for when I don't have shore power to run the AC. The cost of a portable gen runs a bit steeper than I'd like to spend. This unit runs about 100-150 and is supposed to work very well at keeping the cabin cool/ventilated.

They are awesome fans - no doubt about that. Also, their customer service for after the sale is legendary as well. We have two of them in this rig, and have had them in all of the past ones as well.

The best system for us is to turn on the bathroom vent and open a back window when sleeping. That keeps a nice cross breeze for cooling. They also work great in the evening when it is cooling down - opening the windows and cranking the vents gets that hot air out pretty well.

I would recommend getting the reversible models - blows and sucks. (that doesn't sound right, but you know what I mean). Also, consider the covers for them because you usually need the fans the most when it is raining outside. Just how it works out.

Not sure that you can count on using to "cool" your rig, as it just moves ambient air. It WILL get the air moving inside the rig, and that is usually what is needed if you are in mild weather.

Easy to install if there is already power running to the opening. If you have to cut the opening yourself, let me know so I can come watch!!

I have washboard abs. They are just hidden under 50#s of laundry.

Thanks Kev. That convinces me to get it then. Nice Spaceballs reference there too :-)

I'm not sure I'll do the install still. I know it'll cost more to have someone else do it but then I have the peace of mind of being able to blame them if something goes wrong.

Definitely concur..   when we're off grid, our vent fan is essential.  In dry hot climates, we put it on 'In' mode and secure a damp cloth across the opening  to create a makeshift evaporative cooling system that really does cool us down quite a bit.

But when the outside temps are tolerable enough, getting air moving across us is just the thing to keep us comfortable inside.  We just crack a window where we want the airflow (don't open all your windows, as you won't feel it as much).

Best wishes,

Another option - and one that I just installed on Sunday - is the Maxxair Turbo/Maxx vent cover. It installs over your existing vent, so you don't have to take your vent out and unseal/reseal (I had just installed Eternabond on the vent that I wanted a fan in, so this was a huge bonus to me).

It's pretty easy to install - goes on like other vent covers with just holes in your existing vent (no holes in the roof). I've heard good things about Maxxair as a company as well, but the product is still new to me.

Turbo/Maxx on Amazon

I purchased from Amazon...looks like the price dropped another $7 since I purchased.

Hi alliemac9 - thanks for the suggestion. I have looked at these and thought they would solve two issues at once. If mine hadn't come stock with the Fantastic Fans, I would go with these.

Thanks - and welcome to NuRVers!
