After weeks of searching the area, I found a new ride!

Damien and Michelle introduced me to longboarding a few weeks ago, and I really wanted to get one. We looked in San Antiono, then looked in San Marcos, and found nothing. We made a stop on the way back from San Marcos and found this awesome Sector 9 "Uluwatu" bamboo board. Not only does it propel by human power, it is made from a renewable resource - bamboo. Their slogan for this line is "Save a tree. Ride a weed".

Love the board. Went out this morning solo through the park, then again tonight with Damien. Great time!

Thanks to D&M for turning me onto longboarding!!

I have washboard abs. They are just hidden under 50#s of laundry.

I lack the coordination for skateboards, but that's a gorgeous ride.

We don't lack for human-powered options, however; the bikes are always with us!

Don't assume that I have the coordination either - I have scabs to prove otherwise :)

Ang and I STILL don't have bikes. Sucks. We keep looking, but can never decide between cruisers or MB. I guess we will just not decide forever. WTH??

We couldn't decide either.  We have mountain bikes on the RV right now (the better to deal with hilly terrain) and a pair of antique cruisers in storage, which we could go and get if the need arose.

Bringing the MBs was also an easy decision because they weigh less, and I'm the one who has to lift them up onto the ladder rack!

We sadly had our pair of nice bikes stolen off the back our rig last year (they cut the security chains and stuff right off).  I used to have a really nice Trek hybrid bike that I loved, ideal for a variety of situations.   But now I have a cheapie mountain bike, that I find myself less inclined to use outside of Burning Man.

Still contemplating if it's worth the expense and risk of getting a bike I'll love and actually use.

That sucks, to put it lightly.  That's part of the reason we didn't bring the cruisers as well.  Our bikes are older, and hopefully less desirable targets for theft.  How did you lock them up?  We use a security cable to lock them to the rack, and a U-lock to attach them to one another.  Although I'm pretty sure the fact that they're worth less than $100 each (the Specialized was bought new...in 1990.  The Schwinn was bought used last summer for $110) is the biggest theft deterrent.

We had a pretty sturdy bike chain around the bikes at the time, that they just clipped off.  Now we have two extra thick chains and two u-locks.  So far, so good.  :D

Weak! WTH does a guy need just to protect his bikes??!!!?!?! Where were you when the bikes got ripped? In a public campground?

We were boondocked in front of a friend's house on the streets in San Leandro, CA (near Oakland). The trailer was hitched to the Jeep (the bike rack is on the spare tire of the Jeep, over the hitch).

Pretty safe neighborhood.   It happened sometime between midnight and sun-up - and likely while we were inside the house (up late, working on a project).  But, quite possibly while we were sleeping in the trailer.

Bleah.. I hate not being able to trust my fellow man. It was especially jarring, because we had just gotten off the playa and had all that yummy-trust-the-world Burning Man vibe.

Isn't that funny how we cling to that world for as long as possible. I remember one year I had to burst Angie's bubble and remind her we were back in the default world. Poor thing. Would be so nice if that vibe would carry over to this world just a bit more...

It's a bit off topic, but I've noticed that that vibe does seem to exist in a lot of campgrounds, and at most rallies I've been to. Perhaps that's where the popularity comes from.
