A suggestion on Twitter from NuRVer Alicia prompted me to start a Cocktail of the Day post! I am sure I will need some help from you other NuBartenders, so don't be shy! Make em simple and delicious!

The first CotD is The Moscow Mule! The Mule has a bit of a "kick", and can turn you into an "ass" if you don't watch it (pah dah DUM! thank you, I will be here all week...).

The Moscow Mule was recently shown to me by NuRVer Michelle, and it has become a regular in my cocktail stable. The simple recipe and easy to find ingredients makes is a winner. Thanks Michelle!

The Moscow Mule

Lowball Glass
Ice
Vodka
Ginger Ale/Beer
Straw

Fill your glass with ice. Go half way (or less for beginners) with a good vodka - Svedka has been my cheap/good one lately. Top it off with Ginger Ale (or Ginger Beer if you can find it). Give it a good stir and garnish with a straw.

Mellow flavor, with a slight ginger taste. Great for a warm day!

Jack & Ginger

Lowball Glass
Ice
Jack Daniels / Whiskey
Ginger Ale/Beer
Straw

Fill your glass with ice. Go half way (or less for beginners) with a decent whiskey. Jack Daniels has always been a favorite, but lately have been going with Evan Williams. It is decently priced and delicious. Top it off with Ginger Ale. Give it a good stir and garnish with a straw.

Very similar to the Moscow Mule, but with whiskey!

NĂ¼-Whiskey Sour

Lowball Glass
Ice
Jack Daniels / Whiskey
Limeade
Cherry
Straw

Fill glass with ice. Sport the whiskey about half way (again - less for beginners), fill with Limeade. Transfer to a shaker and give it a hellofa shake. Pour back in to the glass and top with a cherry (optional) and a straw. Suck.

This is an extremely simplified recipe of an old classic. The original has powdered sugar and lemons, which is delicious, but not always stocked in our RV. However, Limeade is a staple. Simply Limeade is great, and contains no high fructose corn syrup. And for a budget whiskey, Evan Williams is a great substitute for Jack or Makers (when mixing).

Enjoy!

The True Michelada!

Pilsner glass
Chilled Mexican Beer (I love Dos Equis for this-not the Amber- but Tecate--stop laughing!--works great too!)
Fresh squeezed lime juice (must be fresh)
Tabasco Original
Kosher Salt or Twang or Chile-Limon Salt for glass rim
Lime Wedges
Ice

Moisten rim of glass with one lime wedge and then dip rim in salt. Add ice to fill half of glass. Add Tabasco to your own comfort level. (I like a good five shakes or so.) Add juice of one lime or to your taste. Pour beer over all, slowly. Give a small stir. Garnish with lime wedge.

This is perfection on a hot day, and just begs for a hammock or a cookout. And it is very forgiving. Add more or less Tabasco, more or less lime, whatever. Ohhhh, so good. *Note to self: Buy Dos Equis.

PS. I've read about Micheladas made with tomato juice but for me that is just a Bloody Beer, and a whole 'nother thing!

Strip and Go Naked

1 can Lemonade Concentrate
Fill that same can/container with vodka   (I used Smirnoff Pomegranate)
4 Lite Beers

It's a great summer drink for backyard barbeques.  If you are a beer lover, then skip the "light."  Beautifully trashy.  Variations abound.

Share with your favorite trashy friends - in my case it was Angie and Kev (KevsKnight).  ;)  Plus, it's just plain fun to say: Strip and Go Naked.  Can be a directive, if necessary!

The Playan Ruin

Lowball glass
Good Tequila
Rose's Lime
Ice

Fill your glass with ice and tequila from the freezer. Cold tequila is your buddy. Transfer to a shaker and give it a toss to get tequila even colder. Transfer back into glass and add a capfull of Rose's Lime. Sip confidently.

This drink came to me in the middle of the Black Rock desert, after a week of Burning Man, and running out of other mixers. It soon became a staple drink because of its simplicity and yummness.

For tequila, look for pure 100% Blue Agave tequila - and drink nothing but that forever and ever. Jose Cuervo is a blend tequila, and will give you brain explosions and awkward moments with the ladies. 100% Agave tequila will allow you to wake feeling fresh as a spring morning, and will help formulate suave conversation.

It is easy to find 100% Blue Agave tequila, but it can be expensive. Patron and Republic Tequila (organic) are awesome, but a bit pricey. For value tequila, look at Sauza Hornitos or El Jimador. Both typically < $25 for a 750ml. >
Enjoy!
