Hello there!

I tried once before but couldn't get my first message to post.  Fingers crossed.  Better for you all, though, as I'll probably be more economical with my typing this time!

At this point, I'm merely a wannabee.  I don't own an RV but am looking at some of the class B's.  Would love to hear about any others who are crazy enough to live in one.  I've found a handful online so far.

I was a cubical denizen until this past year when I finally hit upon my limits with that life.  It didn't help that I had a new boss whose agenda was that all those who had worked at home would come to the office daily.  After two years working at home, it was a bitter pill.  Especially so when the job already did little to make me happy.  I'd been saving because I feared layoffs (we'd had a bunch), and suddenly decided that nest egg could be for a crisis of my own making.  I wanted to travel and was ready to call it my time.  I quit and began selling my house.  Yes, in that order, not for the weak hearted!  It took me far longer than I anticipated and it was winter before I was free to go.  I managed a month in Ireland and a few nights in Paris before coming home to take care of some things here.  Still intend to do at least a little more outside of our country but becoming more interested in seeing some of my own country, too.  Hence the RV idea that's getting serious consideration.  I've actually been looking at it for awhile.  Had I known what was going to happen with my job, I might have become mobile faster so that I would have been too far from the office to be invited back!  LOL  If only I knew!

Aside from travel, one of my big passions is photography, which actually grew from the former love.  If you want to see what I do, you can go here.  I've also got a blog there which covers some of my travels and such.

So, yes, I'm looking at RVs.  It's just me and I don't want anything big right now.  Another reason I want to go small to start is if this turns out to be temporary, I'm fairly certain I'll want to hang onto the RV for weekends and vacations and I can easily park a B at my parent's house if I wanted.

One way or another, I hope I hit on a scenario that allows me to be more free and less location specific.  Look forward to learning from  you all.  :-)

Nice pics...  I dabbled in HDR, but generally only shoot enough exposures for it on a rare basis.  I hate setting up a tripod. :S

I have no idea what your budget is, but if I were going for a Class B, it would probably be based on a Sprinter chassis.  They're not incredibly cheap, but seem to offer the most space of just about any of B's out there.

Regardless of what you decide on... Welcome!  See you on the road. :)

Smtng - thx!

I actually don't do HDR either.  I have tried a few times, even recently and never got anything I was happy with.  What I do is a lot of what is the digital equivalent of dodging and burning.  If you look at stuff by Ansel Adams, he was dodging and burning when he made his prints, basically shifting the darkness and light where you want it.  Adobe lightroom has "brushes" where you can do essentially the same.  Of course, sometimes, the photo is just perfect as is.  I love those most of all.  =D

For a first time and not willing to mentally commit to it forever, I'll be shopping well south of the price range of a Sprinter, but they are cool.  I'm looking at a variety of van based ones.  I looked at a 1983 Dodge Xplorer last week.  I liked that it had a permanent bed in the rear and tho long @ 20' or so, it wasn't tall.  The kitchen has a dropped floor so someone my height could stand no prob (being short pays off for a change), but the bath was confining.  I might still consider one in better shape than the one I saw, but I'm thinking more and more along the lines of the B vans with the high tops like Intervec made.  Roadtreks on the list, too.  But all would be older used.

I figure if I try this for a time and like it enough to do it full time, I can re-examine what's important to me vehicle wise and trade up.  Right now, I'm just not willing to tie up that much of my savings in an RV.

Thx again for the welcome!
