Hey again...  working the kinks out of our Storm and one of the big ones is a leveling jack.  We've got a "Bigfoot" hydraulic system and the rear driver jack doesn't really work.  It goes down (in a very jerky manner), but doesn't lift.  Also, when it's up, it will drop down by itself enough to trigger the alarm every 100 miles or so.

I talked to one shop who said it sounds like it might just need some fluid (who knew?).  So, I checked the manual and it said to check the reservoir and make sure it's 3/4" from the top.  I think the exact wording on how to do this was "Use a dipstick (not supplied)".  Less than helpful, IMO.

Where's the reservoir, how do I check it without a dipstick and what kind of fluid does it need? Any clues?

We have an HMH leveling system, and the reservoir is bolted to the front of the chassis, right in front of the radiator.

HMH (and many oldtimers) recommended automatic transmission fluid to refill the reservoir, but I'm not sure if the "Bigfoot" system is the same.

Aparently the Bigfoot is a bit different...  Each jack has it's own reservoir (46 oz of reservoir).  It uses Dextron II ATF.  The one that wasn't really working was a full quart low.  Once that was topped up (not easy, since they're up in the frame), she worked like a champ.  The jacks aren't long enough to completely level her in my driveway (15 degree slope), but at least she's not leaning sideways any more. 

 

I'll check the others this weekend.  It's a PITA to get to them.
