Title: The Comal River, New Braunfels, TX
Tags: comal, river, texas
Blog Entry: We are in New Braunfels, TX parked on the banks of the Comal River. According to the Guinness Book of World Records the Comal River is the shortest river in the world. It is fed from other springs at a rate of 8 million GPH of fresh spring water, making it crystal clear and with an average temp of 72 degrees its heaven. The Comal river was discovered by the Spaniards in 1681 whom found Indian tribes residing here whom referred to the river as Conaqueyadesta meaning 'where the river has its source'. It later became the Comal which in Spanish means "the basin". We rented inner tubes from the park that we are staying at which is the Landa RV park. The monthly rates for full hook and 50 amp are an unbelievable $250 dollars per month. In fact, their tube rentals are more expensive than the average daily rate for a monthly RV stay. We must have floated several miles spending about a little over an hour floating along the beautiful river and turtles are a plenty. Did I mention that it is legal to drink beer on your tube.. well its a fact! Having a floating cooler would be ideal. The natural river also offers some tubing chutes.. those were a blast, dont drop your beer though...   I'm really glad we came here and we will be back, the dining is New Braunfels is great and we recommend two fantastic restaurants, The Liberty Bistro and Huisache Wine and Grill. Also a fabulous deli named Fork and Spoon that has the best strawberry spinach salad that I have ever tasted. ~Angie.
